Plumeria cv. ‘Katie Moragne’

Katie Moragne – Reg #178

An Impressive 4″ flower with intense brick red edged petals contrasted by white radiating with yellow shading from center. Elliptical petals with rounded tip, moderately overlapped; heavy texture; strong sweet fruity scent, great keeping quality. Medium tree, wimpy roots. Huge, lush bloom heads that last. Easy grower, easy rooting and grafts good.

History

Plumeria rubra cv. ‘Katie Moragne’ is one of the famous Moragne hybrids produced by the late Mr. William Moragne, Sr. of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii during the 1950s. After nearly twenty years of experiments, Mr. Moragne performed the first documented cross pollination of Plumeria rubra varieties. The results are some of the most spectacular plumeria cultivars known. He named this cultivar for his daughter Katie.

Christina B Plumeria, a seedling from Florida Colors Nursery, a spectacular 3″ pink and white with medium dark pink edges and a small orange center. Nice dark red bands on back. A Compact/Medium grower. Petals: overlapping and rounded, pink with darker pink along margin, yellow towards center and a orange center. Fragrance: sweet, medium intensity. Leaves: medium green with light green veining and faint red line along margin. Producing full heads with multiple buds. Interesting pink with rays of dark pink. Warm temperatures will bring the brightness coloration of those rays. Seedling of Pink Pansy.

Abigail

Florida Colors Nursery’s Abigail 

Abigail is a Florida Colors Nursery seedling from Maui Beauty named for Luc’s great-niece. Light pink, outer edge fading to predominantly white, yellow center. Wide highly overlapping petals, with rounded tips 3″. Slightly upturned inner edges. Medium pink stripes fade to white on the reverse. Keeping quality is average with an average tendency to fade. Very compact growth habit and excellent branching habit. Elliptic leaves are matte medium green with green leaf borders with acute tips. Known to set many seeds pods. 3″ pink and white with yellow center, a seedling of Maui Beauty.
